Signs That You Need a Chimney Rebuild

If you own a home with a chimney, and you are experiencing any of these indicators of a chimney rebuild, contact us directly! We are more than happy to help.

Cracking and Spalling

  • Cracks in the bricks or mortar, as well as spalling (flaking or chipping of the masonry surface), are signs of deterioration. If these issues are widespread, they can compromise the integrity of the chimney.

Missing or Loose Bricks:

  • Loose or missing bricks are clear signs of chimney deterioration. If bricks are falling off or easily dislodged, it's an indication that the chimney is in poor condition.

Leaning or Tilting:

  • If the chimney is leaning or tilting noticeably, it could be a serious structural problem. This may indicate a compromised foundation or weakened structure that requires attention.

Smoke Issues:

  • If you experience drafting problems, like smoke coming back into the house instead of exiting through the chimney, it could be a sign of chimney blockage or damage.

Water Damage:

  • Water-related problems, such as stained or damp walls around the fireplace, can indicate a damaged chimney. Water can erode the mortar, leading to structural issues. Efflorescence (white, powdery deposits) on the chimney exterior is also a sign of water damage.

Signs of Fire Damage:

  • If the chimney has experienced a chimney fire, there may be signs of damage such as warped metal, cracks, or discoloration. In such cases, a thorough inspection is necessary to assess the extent of the damage.
