10 Things Masonry Companies Do

Most people know that masonry companies repair chimneys, build walls and create walkways but have you ever wondered what else they do? Below is a top ten list of activities that, like most masonry companies, we carry out  at Blackwell Masonry. Contact us if you have a masonry project in mind in the Kitchener- Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph area.

10 Things That Masonry Companies Do

Obviously each masonry company has its own area of expertise, but in the following list we describe some of the most common projects that masonry companies do.

1   Chimney Repairs and Removals

Chimney repairs are one of the most common projects for masonry companies. A neglected chimney can become a significant health and safety hazard, not to mention an increasing drain on the wallet. Many repairs become more expensive if left unattended as they can lead to other problems. At Blackwell Masonry, we pride ourselves on being chimney specialists

2   New Chimney Installations

A well-installed fireplace and chimney can add significant value to your property, and also provide you with an attractive extra heat source for those cold winter evenings. Our team of experts have decades of experience with chimney installs.

3   Masonry Fireplace Installations

Who doesn't want to sit beside a warm, glowing and eye-pleasing fireplace? However, for peace of mind, it is always best to have a masonry company install a masonry fireplace. We are knowledgeable and up to date in all local code requirements.

4   Terra Cotta Fireplace Hearths

A terra cotta fireplace is an increasingly popular feature and makes an interesting and eye-catching addition to any home. With a wide variety of materials available for selection, we can assist you to create the fireplace of your dreams.

5   Retaining and Decorative Walls

Retaining walls are popular and are often a necessary addition to properties. A retaining wall will hold back water or earth that you wish to control. A natural stone retaining wall is one of the classic features of a well landscaped lot.

6   Flagstone Walkways, Steps, and Patios

Masonry companies often provide walkway installations and repairs. Natural stone steps can provide a stunning entrance way to a house if properly installed. Check out our blog post entitled, "Flagstone vs Stamped Concrete vs Patio Blocks vs Wood Patios" for useful advice.

7   New Construction & Additions

Like many other masonry companies, at Blackwell Masonry we often find ourselves working on new construction projects and additions. Contact us for a free estimate if you have a project in mind.

8   Tuckpointing and Other Masonry Repairs.

Tuckpointing is the repairing of the masonry joints between bricks on chimneys and other masonry structures. The life span of mortar is much shorter than that of the bricks it holds together. Don't neglect damaged mortar, it will only lead to more costly repairs down the road.

9   Parging

One of the services that many masonry companies provide is parging. Parging is a cover or a layer of plaster or mortar that is placed over bricks for protection and decoration. Contact us for a free estimate if you have a project in mind.

10   Masonry Signs

Masonry signs can provide a durable, appealing addition to your property. Some are as simple as mounting a plaque to an existing brick structure. Most installations can be accomplished in a day or less and with a minimum of disruption.
